Kirstie graduated from University of New Mexico with a B.S. in biology in 2014. She joined School of Molecular Sciences at ASU in 2016. Her research focuses on DNA/antibody systems for diagnostic design. In her free time, Kirstie likes reading, dancing, music, and hanging out outdoors. 

Soma joined School of Molecular Sciences in 2016. She obtained BS-MS dual degree from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Thiruvananthapuram (IISER-TVM) majoring in Chemistry. Her research focuses on reengineering nonribosomal peptide synthesis and developing novel diagnostic methods. In her spare time, she likes travel, cooking, and watching TV series. 

Zach is a 4+1 student completing his masters in Biomedical Engineering. He is interested in designing biological circuits to detect infectious diseases and modulate gene expression. Outside of the lab he enjoys golfing and working as a medical scribe in the Banner Thunderbird Emergency department. 

Griffin graduated in 2014 from Johns Hopkins University in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Following work at the NASA Ames Research Center, Griffin joined the the Biological Design PhD program in 2017. His research is focused on RNA-based circuits and genetic encoding of novel materials and structures. Outside of the lab, Griffin enjoys cooking, home improvement, and woodworking, as well as mountain biking.

Zhaoqing joined as Ph.D. student in 2017 and is in the BU MCBB program. He completed his B.Sc. degree in chemistry at the University of Jinan in 2016. He is interested in the programming DNA and RNA molecules that can be used for reporting or recording dynamic biological events. In his spare time, he enjoys playing badminton, dubbing, and playing flute.

Kaiyue attained his bachelor’s degree in biological sciences at Wuhan University, China. He began his Ph.D. studies in 2017 and is in the BU MCBB program. His research focusses on developing novel DNA/RNA sensing nanodevices using biological components. When not in lab, he likes playing with his cat.

Milad graduated in 2018 from BU where he obtained his Bachelors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Masters in Biotechnology. His research focus entails development of DNA nanodevices that can simultaneously amplify nucleic acid targets while providing fast readout. In his spare time, he enjoys jogging and exploring designs in silico.

Jiayi grew up in China and graduated from UC San Diego with a B.S. degree in Bioengineering: Biotechnology. She joined the Ph.D. program in Biomedical Engineering at BU in 2020. She is interested in engineering RNA-based circuits for imaging and biosensing. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music and reading fantasy novels.

James earned his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Boston University in 2020 and joined the Ph.D. program in the same year. As an SB2 trainee, he is interested in engineering biological systems by designing RNA and DNA structures to modulate gene expression. Outside of the lab, he enjoys playing in local orchestras, chamber ensembles, and wind ensembles, as well as baking, watching movies, and volunteering.

Rebecca is from Singapore. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a B.S. in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering and joined the BU BME Ph.D. program in 2019. Her research focuses on nucleic acid design for synthetic biology in cell-free systems and mammalian cells. Outside of the lab, Rebecca is part of a loving spiritual family at Symphony Church. She enjoys boxing and trying out new restaurants.

Dayna is a senior studying biochemistry and molecular biology. She is gaining experience in synthetic biology and learning about RNA circuits to further medicine. In her free time, she loves to experiment with hairstyles/hair colors, cook, and spend time with friends and family.

Juan graduated from MIT in 2016 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He joined the BME PhD program after working at Lyndra Therapeutics as Scientist II. Juan hopes to bridge biomaterials and synbio to create a fully synthetic cell able to compute complex, specific logic. Juan enjoys new food, playing video/board games, and advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Jinan received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 2020 at Hunan University. He joined the lab as a graduate student in BME in 2021. His research focuses on cell-free systems. Outside of the lab, he likes playing basketball and listening to music.

Ananya is a sophomore at BU studying Biomedical Engineering. She hopes to learn more about regulating gene expression and detecting mutations in RNA. Outside of the lab, she enjoys exploring Boston, baking, and hiking.

Aidan graduated from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering and joined the BU BME Ph.D. program in 2021. His research focuses on developing machine learning methods to design functional nucleic acids in vivo. In his free time, Aidan enjoys skiing, golfing, and hiking.

McKayla graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a B.S. in Chemical and Biological Engineering and joined the BU BME PhD program in 2021. She is interested in designing nucleic acid systems for reporting and therapeutic applications. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, exploring Boston, and traveling.

Yudan graduated from Georgetown University with an MS in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and did her undergrad in Entomology at Northwest A&F University, China. She joined the BU Biology Ph.D. program in 2021. She is interested in engineering biological components for sensing functions and hopes to bring her research from bench to application. Yudan enjoys building Lego, cooking, and photography.

Amit graduated in 2021 from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s in Biomedical Engineering. He joined the BU BME Master’s program in 2021. His research focuses on cell-free multi-channel diagnostic detection and determination of viral loads. Outside the lab, Amit likes to swim, cook, and read.

Rita received her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University in 2019 and joined the Green lab as a graduate student in MCBB in 2021. She’s interested in engineering DNA and RNA genetic circuits for various biological purposes. Outside of the lab, Rita enjoys reading Chinese fiction and English classics literature, cooking, and watching movies.

Padric graduated from Boston University with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering in 2017. Following work at Confer Health and Brigham and Women’s Hospital he joined the BU BME PhD program in 2019. He is interested in adapting biological processes for use in sensing applications. Outside of lab, Padric enjoys cooking, trying new restaurants, and watching movies.

Olivia is a junior studying Biomedical Engineering. She grew up in Switzerland, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and the U.S. She is gaining experience with viral diagnostic and DNA sequencing using nanodevices. Outside of the lab, Olivia likes to hang out with her friends and listen to music.
